North of Senegal, small remote village, today.

Banel and Adama are fiercely in love. Longing for a home of their own, they have decided to live apart from their families and that Adama won’t accept his blood duty as future chief.

When Adama informs the village council of his intention, the whole community is disrupted. The rain that’s supposed to come doesn’t come. Banel and Adama will learn that where they live, there is no room for passions, let alone chaos.

After completing a Master’s degree in Performing Arts with a specialization in Cinema at Paris Nanterre University and a year at the French Cinema Conservatoire Libre, Ramata-Toulaye Sy joined the Screenwriting Department at La Femis in 2011, from which she graduated in 2015.

Her short film Astel was awarded at TIFF and Clermont ISFF in 2022, and screened over 80 festivals, winning more than 20 awards.

She has worked, among others, as a screenwriter on the film Sibel by Cagla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti as well as on Our Lady on the Nile by Atiq Rahimi.

French-Senegalese, Ramata-Toulaye now lives between Dakar and Paris. Banel & Adama is her first feature film.
